We leave from Huaraz city towards east, passing through villages as Coyllur, Paquishca and Jancu, in this last village there are small archaeological remains belonging to Pre-inca cultures, from where we start the hike towards Azulcocha. From the path we can see the daily activities of the countrymen, observing ichu grass, some Quenual trees and plants with healing properties such as vira vira, Pucamaca, Huallpapachaquin and others, then the Huamashraju, Cashan and Shacsha mountains are be visible, and finally reach the Azulcocha lake, a hidden treasure in the Andes, surrounded by rocks and ichu grass, located below the Huamashraju mountain, this lake is one of the less frequently visited places within the Cordillera Blanca, but it´s worth a visit, ideal for getting acclimatized.
