DAY 1: Huaraz - Huanucopampa (3736 masl).

Huanuco Pampa or Huanuco Viejo

We leave from Huaraz city by van  towards south of Callejon de Huaylas, passing through cities as Recuay, and Catac, making short stops to visit  the sparkling waters at Pumapampa, as well as  Rock Paintings and in the distance the Pastoruri glaciers . Then we pass through villages as Mina Huansala, Huallanca and La union, and finally reach our first campsite at Huanucopampa, near to the Campsite are the Arqueological remains of Huanuco Viejo. About 5 to 6 hours.

DAY 2: Huanucopampa - Queropalca Village  (3800 masl) - Carhuacocha Lake(4138 masl).

By van we pass through villages belonging to the Department of Huanuco as Baños, Santa Rosa, and Queropalca, in this last village we meet the donkey drivers and donkeys, the trekking starts here up to our second Campsite near the Carhuacocha lake, from where we have  the famous panoramic view of mountains of the Cordillera del Huayhuash as Jirishanca chico (5446 masl), Jirishanca (6094 masl), Toro (5965 masl), Yerupajá (6617 masl) and Siulá (6344 masl). About 3 to 4 hours.

DAY 3: Rest day.

This day we visit the three beautiful lakes of Gangrajanca,  Siulá and Quesillococha.

DAY 4: Carhuacocha Lake - Carhuac Pass (4650 masl) - Mitucocha Lake (4230 masl).

We walk up through the Yana-Yana valley, up to the Carhuac Pass, observing the mountains prevoiusly said, then walk down through Waya valley and reach our next Campsite near the Mitucocha lake, from where we have views of mountains as Ninashanca (5607 masl), Rondoy (5870 masl), Jirishanca (6094 masl) and Jirishanca chico (5446 masl). About 5 to 6 hours.

DAY 5: Mitucocha Lake - Cacananpunta Pass (4700 masl) - Quartelhuain (4200 masl).

In the distance we observe the Pucacocha lake, then ascend to the Cacananpunta Pass, from where we can observe the Burro mountain belonging to the Cordillera Huallanca, then descend to the Cuartelhuain Campsite. About 5 hours.

DAY 6: Quartelhuain - Rondoy Pass (4750 masl) - Sambunya Pass (4750 masl) - Jahuacocha Lake (4100 masl).

Two Passes await us, the Rondoy Pass (4735 masl), and the Sambunya Pass (4750 masl), observing mountains as Ninashanca (5607 masl), Rondoy (5870 masl), Yerupaja chico (6121 masl), Yerupaja (6634 masl), Rasac (6017 masl), Tsacra (5548 masl) and  Huacrish (5622 masl), from the Sambunya Pass we can observe below the beautiful Solteracocha lake , then descend to the Campsite near the Jahuacocha lake. About 5 to 6 hours.

DAY 7: Rest day. (Optional).

we can visit the following places.

  • The Yaucha Pass (4800 masl), to observe the other side of the mountains of the Cordillera Huayhuash.
  • The Cerro Amarillo (Yellow hill).
  • The Solteracocha lake, where we can find remains of a plane that fell in 1954.

DIA 8: Jahuacocha Lake - Pampallamac Pass (4300 masl) - Llamac (3250 masl) - Huaraz.

We ascend to the Pampallamac Pass, the last one in our trekking, from where we can observe part of the Cordillera Blanca, then descend to the llamac village, where our prívate van will be waiting for to take us back to Huaraz city. About 4 to 5 hours.
