We leave from Huaraz city towards north of Callejon de Huaylas, passing through cities as Carhuaz and Yungay, observing part of the Cordillra Blanca and Cordillera Negra, from Yungay we ascend towards east, with close view of the imposing Huascaran mountain the highest in Peru, then reach the Huascaran National Park control post and pay the entrance fee, we also pass through the Llanganuco valley and observe the Chinancocha and Orconcocha lakes, surrounded by quenual tree forests, finally reach Cebollapampa where we start the hike towards the 69 lake. From the path we can observe important mountains sush as Huandoy (6160 masl), Pisco (5752 masl), Chacraraju (6112 masl), Yanapaccha (5460 masl), the North peak (6655 masl) and South peak (6768 masl) of Huascaran and also picturesque flowers, vizcachas and wild birds can be seen. After few hours of hiking we reach the beautiful 69 lake, located right below the Chacraraju Mountain, this lake of singular beauty is one of the most frequently visited within the Huascaran National Park, ideal for getting acclimatized.
